Wahlström family
My family
I have a lovely wife, Marie or "Mimmi"
, and two
wonderful girls
Paulina ( 9 years )
and Louise ( 5 years ).
We live in a nice little house in Hässelby a suburb to
Stockholm. I spend a lot of time at the golfcourse and a nice
sunny day I can make a round of +18. I also like travelling and
all kind of sports.
Education and work.
I graduated as Fire Engineer 1985 from the Swedish National Fire
Academy ( University ). My first profession was as Fire
Protection Engineer in a private company. In 1989 I sort of
changed profession and enroled the Stockholm Fire Department.
Since then I've worked both as Commanding Officer and, mainly, in
different positions at the Fire Safety Dpt. I'm now working as
Assistant Chief Officer, and Head of Fire Safety and Civil
Protection Dpt.
I've specialised in tunnel safety and firefighting in tunnels.
Two reasons are that we have a subway in Stockholm and have start
to build an underground motorway in the south of Stockholm. I was
sent out by the Swedish Rescue Services Agency to the disaster in
the subway of Baku, Azerbadjan 1995 where nearly threehundred
people died due to a disastrous fire.
In April 1999 I joined SwePro - Advanced Project Management as a
consultant. Risk Management and Safety in larger building
projects are the main subjects of my job. Currently I'm involved
in a few large tunnel projects in Sweden.
The year of 1999
In early we travelled to France by car. One week at the French
riviera at Cap d'Agde and then Paris and EuroDisney for a few
days. The children loved it and so did I.
During the summer I visited the World Police and Fire Games
that were held in Stockholm. Since I left the brigade by then I
didn't participate.
The rest of the summer and autumn was very hot and in fact
Stockholm hasn't had that high temperatures in 200 years!
In september my youngest sister gave birth to a little Oscar.
(There will be a picture of him.)
In October we gave a very successful Halloween party with some
relatives in Blekinge. Everyone had nice outfits.
The year of 1998
In february we went downhill skiing in the north of Sweden. Our
two daughters made great progress, and tried to go up and down
the childs hill by their self.
We went to Paris in May to celebrate our 10th anniversary of our
wedding. It was three wonderful days!
Our summer holiday was really raining away from the first to the
last day, but we enjoyed it anyway! Meeting relatives and friends
as well as playing golf. The only time my patience run out was
when they had to close the golf course for five days because the
greens and fairways mostly consisted of water ponds!
In October I had the opportunity to visit the Fire Academy of
Poland in Warsaw. We were three persons from Sweden who held
lectures about the Swedish Fire and Rescue Services as one part
in a joint European project called Tempus.
The year of 1997
During this summer I've been to see Legoland, Denmark with my
family. I also visited the 11th International Contest for firemen
in Herning, Denmark. After this I just enjoyed life by doing
nothing else than golf, getting a suntan and, when it got to hot,
take a bath to cool off! I hope you have had just as nice summer
as I have had.
In the autumn I went to a six week rescue service course called
the HRK. The purpose is getting people from different
organisations ( i.e police, fire, ambulance, coast guard,
military, air and sea rescue etc.) together in order to improve
cooperation in rescue operations.
In November I had a wonderful week at Lanzarote, one of the
Canary Islands. I spent a lot of the time with my kids in the
water. Volleyball and running kept me in shape, and allowed me to
really enjoy the marvelous dinners. My favourite starter was
"papas con mojo" which is potatoes cooked with much
salt and served with a special garlic sauce.
