Friend Of Xena
Vad tänker man?

Murphys lagar i Xenas värld

Callisto: Absorb Thyself
In this great sea
Of the waters of Life.
Dive deep in it
Until thou hast lost Thyself.
And having lost Thyself,
Then thou shalt
Find Thyself again.
Even as it is written,
She had her dwelling
In the great sea
As in a fish therein.
Aleph am I,
From mine unfathomable will
The Universe hath its beginning.
In my boundless wisdom
Are the types and patterns
Of all things.
Glad that
You're feelin' strong,
Thought I might lose ya,
Don't use words,
Sing a song...
This is Illusia!
Xena, be warned,
Xena, beware.
By closing your eyes,
You can see what isn't there.
Xena, be calm.
Open your eyes.
Lies may be truth,
And truth may be lies.
2
Xena: All right, Callisto,
Cut the song and dance.
What's going on?
Where are we?

Callisto: Fate is a wheel.
It will reveal,
All you've become,
And all that you feel.
Destiny knows
What has to be.
You'll pay the price.
Nothing is free.
I'll be your guide
Take the hand of your muse.
You just might lose your way
In the land of Illusia!
Illusia is music,
A world built on rhyme.
It's carved out of space
In the absence of time.
You've tasted
How evil and good coexist.
The bitter and sweet of it,

Dog: All in the lips
That you kissed.

3
Callisto: Lion and bull
Eagle and Snake
To live or die
It's a choice
You've got to make.
Can you undo
What you create?
Step through the wheel
Follow your fate.

Animal Chorus: The fates have a fix on you
We can play tricks on you
We deal in truths
You're too troubled to face.
Gamble the worth of you
And the rebirth of you.
Don't turn away,
Don't start to fade...
What's still unwritten
You can erase.

Callisto: Your villanous infamy
Tortures your soul.
Descent into evil
Must levy its toll.
The darkness that rots you
Has brought you to this...

4
Snake: Surrender serenity
Suffer sweet misery
Sin seeks
Its cursed abysssss...

Anubis: Oh, Xena, with death
There is always Rebirth.

Sphinx: Come see with a vision
Denied you on Earth.

Callisto: Illusia is waiting,
We'll show you the way.
But all consequences
Are your own creation
And there's a price
You must pay...

Animal Chorus: The fates have a fix on you,
We can play tricks on you,
We deal in truths
You're too troubled to face.
Gamble the worth of you
And the rebirth of you
Now is the time,
This is the place.
What's still unwritten
You can erase.

5
All: Illusia is music,
A world built on rhyme
It's carved out of space
In the absence of...

Xena: All right, Callisto.
You like little ditties?
Fine.
I got one for you.
You're acting so strangely
That i hardly know ya,
But still,
I wouldn't trust you
As far as i could throw ya.

Callisto: Ow!
You're wrong
Not to trust one
That knows you so well.
I never betrayed you.
That was...Gabrielle.

Xena: Gabrielle.
Is she here?
The one who betrayed me,
Is she in this land?

6
Callisto: I'm merely your guide,
Dear, along for a grin.
You'll get
No free ride here.
If you want to know more...
Then spin.

Callisto: Changeless,
This great deep of elemental
Water remaineth forever pure.
Because of this, it possesseth
The quality of stability.
From water do all forms
Have their beginning.

Gabrielle: Elysian fields.
Only heroes wind up here.
Dead heroes.
Dead, naked heroes.

7
Joxer: Joxer the mighty
Master of geography
Here to guide you
On your way
Stick to me,
You'll never stray
If you're in
A land that's new
I'm the man
Who'll get you through
Even when you're slightly nude.
I'm Joxer
I'm Joxer the mighty!

Gabrielle: So much for the Elysian
Fields theory.

Joxer: Yeah.

Gabrielle: Ahhh!

Joxer: Ahhh!

Gabrielle: How did you...
Joxer, go away!
Can't you see I'm naked?!

Joxer: Okay. maybe I could,
Like, help you out.
Being naked
Won't excuse ya...
Sing to talk,
We're in Illusia.

8
Warrior Chorus: Xena! Xena!
Xena!
Xena!
Praise the winds of chance
That blew
Xena's back
Where friends are true
We would fight to death
For you, brave Xena.
When your mighty chakram arcs
Throwing fierce,
Magnetic sparks
No one ever hits her marks
Like Xena!
Famed for prowess
With a sword
Who's as feared
And as adored
You've not lived
Till you've been gored by Xena!
You're the warrior princess
Who's as strong as an oak!
You've got eyes
That can tear out
The heart of a bloke!
With one look
You can wilt a flower,
Curdle milk
Or make men cower!
Welcome home, Xena,
Welcome home!
9
Xena: Ares...
I thought as much.
But why
The big production number?
What's the point?

Ares: You are the most divine,
Delicious warrior.

Warrior Chorus: Xena!

Ares: A man can't help
Saluting your return!

Warrior Chorus: Xena!

Ares: And if you start my heart
It's just the way
You slash and burn.
Bewitching woman
Straining
At the armor plate.

Warrior Chorus: Xena!

Ares: You singe me
With the ardor you inflame...
And in my carnal heart
There's not a sorry shred
Of shame.

10
Warrior Chorus: You and me love war
Doesn't matter what it's for
Pandemonium reigns
And we're bludgeoning brains!
Give us war, war, war
Keep it down to a roar...
Words of wisdom,
Ares said:

Ares: When in battle,
Keep your head.

Warrior Chorus: Warriors love war, war, war!

Gabrielle: I know this place.
These people.
That shop!
I'm home.
This is Poteidaia!

11
Village Chorus: Hey, look,
It's Gabrielle.
Gabrielle,
You're back.
Gabrielle!
Gabrielle!
O'er the bridge of tears
She's crossed
And she's paid
A fearful cost.
Her blood innocence is lost,
Gabrielle.
Now the past
Has set her free
And she's traveled home
To be
With her old friends
You and me,
Gabrielle!
You've been plucked out
From the heart
Of our lives for so long.
Now we're grateful
You've come back
To the place you belong!
For what ails,
The panacea
Surely waits
In Poteidaia!
Welcome home, Gabrielle,
Welcome home!
12
Gabrielle: Lila! Sister!
I-i can't believe it.

Lila: Villains, fools, and kings
Have made their mark on you...
Leave their easy evil
In the dust.
If your child had lived we'd surely
Make her welcome, too.

Village Chorus: You and me love peace
With the ducks and goats
And geese!
Wile the hours away
Baking bread, pitching hay...
We love peace, peace, peace
Simple joys never cease
Nothing changes but the time
We don't even
Change our mind!
Villagers love peace,
Peace, peace!

Ares: Pulverizing foes
Requires strategy...
There is no mortal born
Who meets your skill.
Xena, join my vision
Don't deny
Your destiny!

13
Warrior Chorus: You and me love war
Doesn't matter what it's for!
Chop the tree down,
Burn the root!

Ares: Vengeance
Can be such a hoot.

Warrior Chorus: Warriors love war, war, war!

Lila: Xena was no friend
She worked
To twist your mind,
Though you tried
To change her deadly ways.
Take the scythe.
It's just a case
Of killing to be kind.

Village Chorus: You and me love peace
With the ducks and goats
And geese!
Sit and watch
The world go by...
Vegetate until you die!
Villagers
Love peace, peace, peace.

Warrior Chorus: We love war
Fear, lies
Smite and smoke
And pulverize!

14
Village Chorus: Just you put your hand
In mine
Sure your future's
On the line!

Warrior Chorus: You've a son you must avenge
Know you must
Extract revenge!

Village Chorus: Thank Hope, that she freed you!
Peace!

Warrior Chorus: War!

Village Chorus: Peace!

Warrior Chorus: War!

Village Chorus: Peace!

Warrior Chorus: War!

15
Ares: You're lost and confused,
But I understand;
This once beloved friend
Has been slain by your hand.
You feel all alone,
Betrayed and adrift...
But maybe her loss
Can be viewed as a gift.
Now I'll be your rock,
Your strength and support.
Your close confidant
With whom you can consort.
I know you completely,
Come melt into me
Unleash the power
Of your destiny.
You've proved to yourself
Now that you've made the kill,
That you're just like me
With as evil a will.
Our forces are meant
To be merged into one
The world will be panicked
When our work is done.
Let the music of war
With its lustful refrain
Arouse us to heights
With a passionate strength.
Imagine how awesome
Together we'd be
So feel what I'm feeling
Come melt into me.
16
Callisto: Did that fill you
With glee
To kill
Your little friend?
Did that
Ease your suffering
Or bring it
To an end?
Let go...
All of your anger
Will poison you yet
Unless you can just...
Let go.

Ares: Nothing more need be said.
Ding-dong,
The bitch is dead.

Xena: I killed Gabrielle!

Gabrielle: You killed me?
By the gods, Xena...
You killed me!
I knew you were trying
Before, Xena, but --

17
Xena: No! No.
I didn't. It was...
None of this
Is real.
Ares and Callisto
And Joxer...
I didn't kill you.
I killed an illusion.

Gabrielle: If that's supposed
To make me feel better...

Xena: I need time to think.

Gabrielle: What is that?

Xena: Us.
Somehow,
It's all about us.

Xena: Everything about
This Illusia place
Has been bright
And cheery.
The music, the colors.
But this place is dark.
It's meant to scare us.

18
Gabrielle: What if you're wrong?

Xena: You got any better ideas?

Gabrielle: You're asking me?
Well, that's a first.
You know,
Ever since we've met,
You've always made
The decisions.

Xena: Because you always take
So long to reach one!
[ echoing ] Always weighing
The pros
And cons...cons...cons...
[ echo fades ]

Gabrielle: What's causing that?

Xena: We are.
Or I should say you are.

19
Gabrielle: There you go again!
[ echoing ]
You're always blaming me
For everything...
Blame..blame...blame...
Xena, why is it
Never your fault?

Xena: It's the past!
Each time we accuse
Each other about the past,
The echoes start
And we can't hear one another!

Gabrielle: Well, how do we stop it...
Stop it...stop it?

Xena: Tell me how you
Feel...feel...feel.
Right now --
Nothing about the past.
Right now!

Gabrielle: I hurt inside!
[ echoing stops ]
Don't you?

20
Xena: My heart
Is hurting beyond words
The pain is tearing up
My soul...
These days have seen
My spirit die,
My life propelled
Out of control.
My wounds lie naked
To the world
My depth of suffering
Exposed.
This damaged past
Can never heal
Until this nightmare book
Is closed...

Gabrielle: My heart is hurting
Beyond words
The pain
Is tearing up my soul.
Please tell me
How I can retrieve
The life
That all this sadness stole?
Because of you this happened,
Because you had to carry out
Your vengeful, little plans!

21
Xena: It's you
Who should feel guilty,
Because of you
My child is dead
His blood
Is on your hands!

Gabrielle: If only you had
Never brought me there...

Xena: If only you had done
What you were told...

Gabrielle: It's you
Who's to be blamed...

Xena: And you should be ashamed!

Gabrielle: It's your fault!

Xena: No, it's yours!

Gabrielle: How could you?

Xena: How could you?

22
Gabrielle: It's your fault!

Xena: It's your fault!

Gabrielle: It's Dahak!
No!

Xena: Gabrielle!

Gabrielle: No!
Not again! No!!

Xena: I'm coming!

Gabrielle: Not again!
Please!

Xena: Hold on Gabrielle!

Gabrielle: No! Don't let go!
No!

Gabrielle: Blood!
No!
Not here!
It's Dahak.
This is where it started.
I can't! I can't!

23
Xena: No, Gabrielle!
Look, Gabrielle, think.
Everything about this world
Has been a torment.
We've been guided through it
For a reason.
Whatever happens, we have to
Go through it together.

Hatred: It begins very small,
Seems like nothing much at all
Just a germ, just a speck,
Just a grain...
But the seed has been sewn,
And before you know it's grown
It has spread through
Your life like a stain.
And its power will strangle
Your love and your joy
And its hunger consumes,
For it lives to destroy!

Xena: Okay, Gabrielle,
That's what we're
Fighting -- hatred.

24
Hatred Chorus: Hate is the star,
It becomes who you are.
Not the hated but the hater
Has a torment that's greater.
It will eat you alive,
Consume you and spit you out...
Hate's gonna win
That there's no doubt about.
Hate doesn't care
Who you are
Hate is the star!

Hatred: Learning hate is an art,
Even people who are smart
Can be caught, can be crushed,
Can be creamed.
Hate has swallowed you whole
Did you think
You're in control?
Hate you thought, hate you
Spoke, hate you dreamed.
All your hate
Gave me substance
Your lives are undone
It's your eve of destruction,
Your hatred has won!

Xena: Gabrielle!!

25
Xena: I never dreamed that we'd be
Distanced by a hate...
That all the trust we had
Would go.

Gabrielle: How could I hate you?

Xena: How could it come to pass,
This awful twist of fate?

Gabrielle: How could I hurt you?

Xena: This madness can't be so...

Gabrielle: I can't believe it.

Xena: I never dreamed
That any barriers could rise.

Gabrielle: Or that I'd ever see
The stranger in your eyes.

Xena: Our hearts were hurting
Both the same...

Gabrielle: The hurt
Was tearing up our souls...

26
Xena: The fury in us
Made us blind...

Gabrielle: We could not see
Beyond the pain...

Xena: If we can turn again
To love...

Gabrielle: If we can heal
These open wounds...

Xena: We'll leave this hatred
Far behind...

Gabrielle: So not a trace of hate
Remains...

Both: We'll overcome
Our damaged past.
And we'll grow stronger
Side by side!
To stand together
Through the storms...
We're safe 'cause love
Will be our guide!

Xena: Solan!
It was him. Solan!

27
Gabrielle: He's why we're here.
It's the way out.
It's gotta be.
He's here
To lead us home.
Come on!

Xena: Solan?

Gabrielle: Come on!
Xena, quick!

Xena: I can't.

Gabrielle: Of course you can.

Xena: It's no use,
Gabrielle.
It's Ming T'ien.
I killed him.
I killed you,
You bastard!

Gabrielle: You lied?
You gave me your word.
You lied.

28
Xena: Yes, I lied
Thought I could protect you
From the truth.
Deliver you from evil,
Spare your innocence and youth.
That I could simply will it
Was the real untruth.
I was wrong
I wore a mask to cover
My deceit
But underneath it all
I couldn't keep away my doubt.
Now i'm left without a mask
And one question left to ask...
I'm sorry, please help me,
Forgive me...
Don't hate me, don't leave me,
Forgive me...
Forgive me my debt
As only you could.
Forgive me the hate,
Replace evil with good.
29
Forgive me
And find out that you
Will be able
To forgive yourself, too.
My dear Solan
I never told you
That you were my son
I didn't know the days
We had left were so few.
If i only knew
I'd have been with you.
I'm so sorry
I couldn't be
The mother you deserved...
And I regret
That I missed your first step
Your first word...
That i never heard
Now it seems absurd.
Can you forgive me?
Open up your heart
And let me in.
30
No matter if the fates
Against us turn...
There's one thing through
All of this I've learned...
That what I need from you
Is to forgive me
I'm sorry, believe me.
Stop hating, stop hurting,
Forgive me.
Forgive those who'd harm you,
Do good for those who hate.
Forgive, if not forget,
I know it's not too late.
Forgive me
And you'll discover, too
That the love of your love
Is you...

Solan: Mother?
Xena: Solan!
Gabrielle: Go on.
Solan: I love you, mother.
Xena: I love you, Solan.
I'll always love you.
Gabrielle: We're home.
Xena: At last.

Håret fastnade i min svettiga nacke.
"Du saknar mål i ditt liv" sa hon.
Alltid samma självklarhet i vad hon sa.

I AM A CLOSET XENA WATCHER
[01] Hi, my name is Phyllis and I am a 'closet' Xena watcher. Yes, I admit I am hooked and hooked bad. I found Xena: Warrior Princess quite by accident, about halfway through the second season. The first episode I saw was A DAY IN THE LIFE (#39). That is all it took. Now that I have made my confession to the horde (not the horde -- unless you all have had your noses pierced) and masses, I hope it will counteract all the weird 'stuff' that has been happening to me over the last few months. Call it XWS [Xena Withdrawal Syndrome], subliminal suggestion, overactive imagination, mental instability, or call it mischief of the Gods. I do not know.
[02] I found Xena one Thursday night (I remember quite clearly it was a cold night in February) while flipping aimlessly through the channels. Watching a female warrior beating the daylights out of a bunch of bad guys with a frying pan was, well, let's just say it piqued my interest. I put the remote down and settled in for what I thought would be an hour of mindless action entertainment. By the time the show was over I was rolling with laughter.
[03] The writing was incredible, surpassed only by the superb acting/comic timing (rapport) of the two leads. It was so obvious that they (Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor) seemed to be having just as good of a time making this as I was having watching it. I would definitely be back next week (and, it seems, the week after that and so on and so on...).
[04] I really did not start out to be a 'closet' watcher. I tried to be upfront about it. I mentioned the show at work and to friends, only to be met with blank stares and worse. They ridiculed me, they called it hokey, kid oriented, silly nonsense --- they asked how I could possibly watch that 'junk'.
[05] For weeks, I valiantly tried to explain its appeal. I discussed the shows/episodes, the important lessons/themes, the comedy/drama, the action/special effects and the wonderful characters and friendships portrayed. But noooooo! They all continued to laugh and mock me. They then began to refer to me as the 'Warrior Nutcase'. So, that was it! I vowed to myself, not to discuss it again with any of my 'so-called' friends. I would just quietly feed my Xena need in silence and solitude. Little did I know what chaos would ensue.
[06] It wasn't long after this decision, that 'stuff' started happening. The season had ended and reruns set in. My subconscious brain began to work overtime by manifesting some very strange behaviors. Let's see, how best to describe it? Well, I call the behaviors: 'Xenaisms' and 'Gabriellines'. In short, XWP began to take over my life!
[07] One could say it started out rather innocently enough, just daydreams and fantasies. One day on my way to work, after being cut off in traffic by some yahoo in a pick-up truck (instead of my typical New Yorker born and raised reaction -- which usually involves screaming short words and showing off specific fingers), my first thought was getting my hands on this moron and applying a pressure pinch. The words "the blood to your brain has just been cut off...you will be dead in seconds..." kept running over and over in my head. I had been reading on the MCA NetForum about an affliction called Xena Withdrawal Syndrome (XWS) and since the season was now over -- I wrote this incident off as a daydream caused by XWS.
[08] Another day, while in the process of raking leaves in my backyard, I suddenly found myself beating the sap out of a 'warlord' pine tree with the rake handle. For awhile, I was winning! Bark was flying everywhere. Take that! Haha! And that! Hoho! But then the tree must have started fighting back or maybe it was the effects of whacking myself a few times in the head with my new-found staff. Anyway, I was brought back to reality rather quickly. After realizing what I must look like (and I did take a look around the yard to make sure no neighbors saw me), I sank to the ground in a laughing heap. I started to surmise something was amiss. Nah, it is merely heat stroke. Yes, that's it. Heatstroke. Later that same day, while playing fetch with my dog, I found myself trying to bounce the frisbee (a very well known/patented round throwing thing) off several objects in the yard in an effort to get it to return to me. I knew then I had to get out and stay out of the sun.
[09] Still denying to myself that my mental state was declining, I tried my best to proceed with my life and ignore these bizarre daydream/fantasy occurrences. I still hoped that they would eventually go away. To counteract what I was now convinced was XWS, I immersed myself in the NET -- I checked in daily with the MCA NetForum and regularly cruised other Xenaverse sites. Then I started having weekend Xenathons -- watching as many episode tapes as I could at one time (without sleeping -- looking back now, this was probably not a good move on my part). I continued to tenaciously collect anything Xenite in nature: pictures, photos, t-shirts, clothing, dolls, figures, posters, CDs, etc. I even found myself shopping for a sword and a chakram. But it did not work. Soon it got to the point where I would be driving along in my car, listening to the radio, hear a song and imagine scenes from the show that would fit the lyrics. My (hidden) obsession was not diminishing, it was growing! But I stashed all my Xenabilia in a footlocker, safe from the 'disbelievers'. So far, I was lucky, no one had seen any of this, I was still safe. So I thought. Then it got weirder.
[10] One day at work, after completing a rather Herculean task (where did that come from? Excuse me, Xenian task), I was queried by my boss as to how I managed to do it. "I have many skills," I heard a low voice say. This was followed by a quick look behind me -- yes, and the realization that it really did come from my mouth. Suddenly, I began to giggle (you know, the type that goes with an inside joke), then with the straightest face I could pull together (I admit it was smirky, at best), I said, "Hey, I'm Phyllis, I'm a problem solver." By now I was in hysterics, laughing. This completely weirded out my boss. As I walked off, wiping the tears from my eyes because I was laughing so hard, he just stood there, with this incredulous look on his face, shaking his head.
[11] Another day at work, I found myself defending a fellow employee with the words, "Whatever he did, I'm sure he didn't do it." This was met with blank stares all around. Now I knew it was going to take me forever to live down the 'Nutcase' nickname.
[12] I admit, it all still sounds harmless enough, but what if you add another symptom in, like a sudden desire for leather clothes. I live in Florida. I do not need a leather anything. (Thank the Gods, no one sells metal armor breast plates -- whoa, scary thought!) I have also given in to the urge to try fishing without a pole and I have had some success. Granted it was in my fishtank and all I actually acomplished was scaring the Hades out of my goldfish. But, I did manage to catch the little sucker! Oh, and talk about food cravings. Just show me some hard cheese, a loaf of bread or any kind of nutbread. But please, no pink jell-o.
[13] On the plus side, I have found that I love to walk and I have learned to appreciate nature. I have taught my dog to listen to whistle commands (but I suspect she is just doing this as a way of humoring me; after all, she was a witness at the tree beating incident). I have also become pretty adept at storytelling and can build a flying parchment with some degree of expertise. (Where's a giant when you want one?) I found that it is fairly easy to turn a simple block of cheese and a loaf of bread into a gourmet meal (fit for a Princess or Amazon Queen -- as the case may be). Also, I have not really wanted to toss any babies in the air, at least no more than I had before and (thank the Gods!), I have no desire, whatsoever, to bungee jump over a lava pit, spit fire or inhabit someone else's body. I have not flung any frying pans at anyone lately and I have found that I still prefer verbal sparring to physical fighting.
[14] Consequently, the absolute weirdest manifestation has occurred -- my eyebrows have taken on a life of their own. Let me tell you, a raised eyebrow with a slight head tilt and a bit of a squint will get you just about anything you want one way or another. Think about it, if you have ever seen an episode of XWP -- you know, the look. On a six foot, raven-haired, blue-eyed beauty like Xena, the look could actually have several meanings depending upon the degrees of arching and head tilting and the kind of smile (for example):
arched eyebrow (just one), very little squint, sly smile quizzical(As in, "Do you know what you just did?")
or arched eyebrows, slight squint, pursed lips menacing (As in, "I don't think I'd do that again if I was you.)
or arched eyebrows, medium squint, no grin scary(As in, "I hope you like pain")
or arched eyebrows, big squint, teeth-only grin oh boy (As in, now you're gonna get it -- kiss your b*tt goodbye!).
[15] On me, though, a short, dark-eyed, mousy brown-haired me -- well, the look, in any of its varieties, just makes me appear psychotic. But hey, whatever works! It is still the same result. I get whatever I want -- now! This particular manifestation, I have found, is not necessarily a bad thing. I think I can learn to live with this one!
[16] I am hoping with the new season about to arrive that most (if not all -- I will miss the power of the look) of the weird manifestations will subside. But, I do not know. [17] I do hope this serves as a warning to you all. Do not let this happen to you! Do not hide your obsession with the show. Rather, embrace it. Be proud of it. Tell everyone about Xena. Make them listen. Scream your support of XWP from the rooftops if necessary. On second thought, that last one might not be a good idea. Personally, I am trying to stay away from ladders and roofs and any high places -- one "YIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIIII!!!!" and backflip off. Well, I do not even want to think about it.
[18] I sure hope the new season gets here quickly! In the meantime, anyone know where I can find a blonde sidekick and a Chakram (not necessarily in that order)?
Author's Note: [19] No names were changed to protect the innocent (do you think I could make a name like that up?) and all events occurred as written. No living things were irrevocably harmed during the 'occurrences'. The pine tree had a bark graft and is recovering nicely and the goldfish and dog are in therapy (which is probably where the writer should be).
