VICTORY

H.M.S. VICTORY
L=1035mm / H=715mm / Scale: 1:98

Victory, the name of NELSON`s flagship. The battle of Trafalgar was one of the most famous battles of modern history, bitterly fought on the 21st of October, 1805, a few miles south- east of Cadiz, between the English and French-Spanish fleets.
This is one of the few ships of those times which has reached us in a perfectly preserved state.
Construction started 1759 and VICTORY was launched 1765, she was subjected to several rebuildings before arriving at Trafalgar. Badly mauled, after the battle at Trafalgar, she returned to the same dock at Catham where she had been constructed.
On the 14th of January, 1922 she was again seeworthy and can be seen at dock No 2 in Portsmouth. Obviously, such a famous relic, could not be allowed to disappear into nothing and the English people were happy to support a public subscription for reconstructing the VICTORY as she was at the time of Trafalgar.
