VASAN
L=940mm / H=705mm / Scale: 1:75
"Between four and five o´clock the great new warship VASAN keeled over and sank."
This short lines can be read in a book from August10, 1628. VASAN was the most expensive and richly
ornamented naval vessel built in Sweden at that time. When VASAN sailed forth on her maiden voyage,
the citizens of Stockholm stood along the shore to wish her good luck. They were eyewitnesses to the disaster.
Vasan capsized and sunk inside Stockholm harbour.
On September 13, 1956 the following could be read in a Stockholm evening newspaper: "An old ship has been found
in the middle of Stockholm. It is probably the warship VASAN..." After 333 years, VASAN broke the surface
in the morning of April 24, 1961. The ship can today be seen in the Vasa Museum, in Stockholm, which opened on June 15, 1990.
Don´t miss it.
