USSR alltime table 1st level 1936-1991

The table has been assembled using material contributed by the RSSSF website. Additional clarifications, especially regarding namechanges, mergers and such have been contributed by the foot.dk website. Thanks to Mr. Hunjak of Varazdin Croatia who helped with the 1962 relegation group, that was previously missing. The table was updated in June 2010 with that group. A huge thank you goes to the contributors without whom I could not possibly have constructed the table.

General notes

1940: Lokomotiv Tbilisi withdrew. 1941: Not played through because of the German invasion and therefore not counted in the totals. Table at stand off: 1. Dinamo Moskva 10 6 3 1 28-12 15, 2. Dinamo Leningrad 10 5 4 1 18-8 14, 3. Dinamo Tbilisi 9 5 3 1 21-11 13, 4. Stahanovez Stalino 10 6 0 4 11-10 12, 5. Traktor Stalingrad 11 3 6 2 13-13 12, 6. CDKA Moskva 9 5 1 3 15-13 11, 7. Spartak Moskva 9 4 2 3 17-12 10, 8. Dinamo Kiev 9 4 2 3 16-14 10, 9. Profsojuz-2 Moskva 9 3 3 3 11-12 9, 10. Zenit Leningrad 8 2 3 3 12-14 7, 11. Spartak Odessa 10 3 1 6 15-22 7, 12. Spartak Leningrad 9 1 4 4 8-16 6, 13. Dinamo Minsk 10 3 0 7 10-21 6, 14. Spartak Charkov 9 2 1 6 7-19 5, 15. Profsojuz-1 Moskva 9 1 2 6 10-15 4. 1942-44: Not played because of WWII. 1952: CDSA Moskva witndrew. 1964: As the two top teams ended on equal points a championship decider was necessary (Dinamo Tbilisi - Torpedo Moskva 4-1 (aet). This is counted in the table; as is the relegation decider between Torpedo Kutaisi & SK Volga Gorkij (4-2). The latter was necessary for the same reason as the championship decider. 1970: A championship deciding game (with replay) had to be played as the top teams ended on equal points. The games are counted in the table. 1973: All drawn matches were decided by penalties wherebye the winning team received one and the loosing team no points. I have, however, counted all drawn games as such and giving each team one point. 1978-88: A limit on the number of pointgiving draws was in effect. Eight 1978 & 79, ten 1980-88. I've counted all draws as pointgiving though.
