Gibson Les Paul Special (1955–60) SG Special (1960-)
The Gibson Les Paul Special was introduced in September 1955. It
featured a "limed mahogany" finish, two non-humbucking P-90 pickups,
a laminated pickguard, a bound fingerboard, and a pearl "Gibson"
headstock logo. In 1959 the Special went from a single to a double
cutaway. The Les Paul Special became available with a cherry finish
and with a three-quarter size body. In 1960 it changed name to SG
Special.
